Pictures from our first 3 months living in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

We round out our trip to China with a week in the Shanghai area, with side trips to the canal city in Suzhou, and Changshu, where a long-time friend from back home has been working.

We visit my old work colleague, pet some pandas, and eat a lot of spicy food: A week in Chengdu, China.

We visit the Terracotta Warriors, explore the city, and hang out with our new friend Lu Xiang

We spend a few hot and humid days exploring around Beijing, including day-trips to the Great Wall, and the Forbidden City.

With its numerous and beautiful temples, palaces, and museums, Seoul did not disappoint, but it was the friendly locals, the great pubs, and the variety of excellent food that made us sad to leave.

We visit South Korea's vacation hotspot, the volcanic island dominated by Mt Hallasan. We have just enough time to hike up it, explore some lava tubes, and get lost in a hedge maze.

We hop on the JR Beetle jet ferry from Fukuoka, Japan to Busan, South Korea. There we explore the city, hit up a baseball game, and tour Gamcheon Culture Village.

Nicole and I learn that Hiroshima is more than a city that had an atomic bomb dropped on it. It's a beatiful city that stands as a monument for peace. We also take a trip out to stunning Miyajima Island.

Nicole and I visit Nara, the former capital of Japan, where there are several very old temples and hundreds of deer roam freely.

We catch a soccer game, have a soak at Spa World, visit Osaka Castle, and visit the top of Umeda Sky Tower.

We escape the big city life by visiting the temples and shrines of Kyoto, and doing some hiking in the surrounding hills.

We hop on the shinkansen high speed train and head to Nikko to explore the temples and shrines that have been designated a world heritage site.

We kick off our Asian tour with a visit to Tokyo, the land of weird and wonderful. Tokyo is a frenzy of fashion, fish markets, museums, izakaya's, and shopping, that somehow manages to remain polite and respectful

We complete the epic 5 day hike from Western Brook Pond to Gros Morne Mountain. Beautiful vistas and wildlife sightings keep us motivated through difficult terrain. We spoil ourselves with a nice hotel in St. Anthony afterward.

Nicole and I take a trip from St. John's to the small French Island of St. Pierre. We also take the opportunity to explore the beautiful Burin Peninsula.

Summer 2011 was filled with hiking on the East Coast Trail and visits from our families!

Now armed with a new dSLR, I tromp around St. John's, attempting to find light in the grey of winter.

Our first full year Newfoundland was filled with adventures. Visits from our Ontario friends kicked off the summer, which Nicole and I followed up with numerous hiking and canoe trips. We even managed to find our way downtown to some great events.

Nicole recently spent 3 weeks at UC Santa Cruz performing barite extraction on cores taken from the ocean floor. I went down for the last week she was there and did some hiking while she was in the lab. We managed to spend the last couple days in San Francisco.

During my stay in Hong Kong I stayed with the family of my buddy Mark (a friend from Canada). They took us out to some great restaurants (dim sum!) and we went on some amazing hikes.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to go on a scooter trip with my buddy Nathan, who recently moved to Taiwan. We had some great times and I saw some amazing sites.

After our trip to mainland Japan, Laura and I went back to her place in Okinawa. She introduced me to her coworkers and I explored the island for 10 days.

My brief trip to Osaka, Kyoto and the surrounding areas provided an interesting introduction to Japan. The contrast of traditional Japan with the exciting rush of new culture left me with a lot to think about. Full Story: Osaka | Kyoto

Nicole and I spent Christmas and New Years for 2006-2007 in Havana, Cuba. Despite the fact that the US trade embargo crushes the economy of this tiny country, Cubans find a way to get by... "My friend, you like cigar?"

We visited my great aunt/uncle Mary and Gerald. We stayed with my Dad's cousin Sharon and Kevin who also did a fantastic job of showing us around! While we were there we got the chance to take a few day trips out to York and Caenaferon. Full Story
